Manufacturing in Romania and where improvement matters

Romania is an EU manufacturing country with a strong automotive and automotive supplier industry. Alongside vehicle assembly there are many supplier plants producing wiring harnesses, seats and electrical and electronic components. Textiles and apparel, furniture, metalworking and food are other important industries, and many multinational groups use Romanian sites to supply Western European markets.

A large share of these plants run labour-intensive assembly lines. Line balance, work-in-progress between stations, material supply and operator handovers directly determine productivity. Automotive suppliers face customer quality requirements on top of this: measurement systems have to be reliable, processes have to be monitored statistically and defects have to be solved down to root cause.

Most relevant work for plants in Romania

01

Lean manufacturing for assembly lines

Value stream mapping makes the whole line visible; line balancing, standard work and kanban then reduce work-in-progress and waiting losses.

02

SPC and measurement system analysis (MSA)

For automotive suppliers we monitor critical characteristics with control charts, validate gauges with MSA and solve customer complaints down to root cause with DMAIC.

03

Yellow Belt for team leaders

We deliver White/Yellow Belt training at the plant for line and shift leaders, so they can run problem solving and 5S on the shop floor themselves.

04

Daily management and performance tracking

Shift-start meetings, line boards and KPIs make problems visible on the same day and give each one a clear owner.

How we work in Romania

We have delivered projects in Romania. Our working language there is English; we do not train in Romanian. Diagnosis, Kaizen events and belt training take place on site, while project follow-up and coaching run online between visits.

How an international programme runs.

  1. 1

    Introductory call

We discuss the plant, the targets and the team structure in an online call. The working language (English or Turkish) and the scope of the first site visit are agreed at this stage.

  2. 2

    Diagnosis on site

On the first visit we walk the lines, review the data and identify the largest losses together with the management team. Programme priorities are based on what we see on the shop floor.

  3. 3

    Programme plan

We put into writing which projects run with which teams and in what order, so that headquarters and plant management work from the same plan.

  4. 4

    Site visits and remote coaching

Projects move forward through regular site visits. Between visits we hold online coaching sessions with project leaders and review analyses and milestones together.

  5. 5

    Training and sustainability

Belt training is delivered face to face, ideally at the plant itself. The goal is to build internal experts who keep the programme running without a consultant.
